How to Make the Perfect Santorini Spritz at Home
Close your eyes and picture yourself on a sun-drenched terrace in Santorini, overlooking the shimmering Aegean Sea. Now, let’s bring that vibe straight to your home with the Santorini Spritz—a light, citrusy, and oh-so-refreshing cocktail that captures the magic of Greece in a glass! The star of this show? Mastiha liqueur—a Greek treasure with notes of pine, herbs, and just a hint of sweetness. Ready to sip your way to paradise? Let’s go!
What is Mastiha Liqueur?
Mastiha is a unique Greek liqueur made from the resin of the mastic tree, which grows exclusively on the island of Chios. It has a slightly sweet, herbal, and pine-like flavor, making it an exciting ingredient for cocktails. Traditionally enjoyed as a digestif, Mastiha pairs beautifully with citrus and fresh herbs—perfect for the Santorini Spritz! Thankfully, you don’t need to fly all the way to Chios to get it. Pick up a bottle of Skinos at your local Dan Murphy’s.
What You’ll Need:
- 1.5 oz Mastiha liqueur (try Skinos!)
- 1 oz fresh lemon juice
- 0.5 oz honey syrup (equal parts Greek honey & warm water)
- 2 oz Prosecco or dry white wine
- 1 oz soda water
- LOTS of ice
- Lemon wheel & fresh mint (for that Insta-worthy garnish)
Let’s Mix It Up!
- Make the honey syrup – Stir together equal parts Greek honey and warm water until smooth, then let it cool.
- Fill your favorite glass with ice – A wine glass or highball works best, but hey, anything will do!
- Add the magic – Pour in Mastiha liqueur and fresh lemon juice for that bright, herbal punch.
- Sweeten the deal – Stir in the honey syrup to balance things out.
- Bring on the bubbles – Top with Prosecco and finish with soda water.
- Make it pretty & sip away! – Garnish with a lemon wheel and a sprig of mint. Now take a sip, sit back, and pretend you’re in Greece.
Perfect Pairings:
Pair your Santorini Spritz with some Greek meze like tzatziki, grilled haloumi, or feta-stuffed olives. It’s the ultimate drink for sunny afternoons, backyard hangs, or whenever you need a quick getaway—no passport required!
Now, grab your ingredients, mix up some Greek sunshine, and enjoy every sparkling sip. Cheers to a little slice of Santorini, wherever you are.
